Oregano oil – valuable plant extract with carvacrol and thymolOregano (origanum vulgare L.) is a typical member of the labiate family from the Mediterranean and known as wild marjoram. The essential oregano oil extracted contains a range of biologically significant ingredients:
- Carvacrol is a terpenoid structural isomer for thymol and is prized in the food industry for its antifungal properties.
- Beta-caryophyllene (E-BCP) has a bicyclic structure and, as well as in oregano, is found in other herb plants such as basil, rosemary and cinnamon.
- Thymol is a monoterpene.
